Team Usborne at Tortworth - a review

29th September 2015

Our Business & Leadership Development Manager, Sue Bennetts, explains what our Team Usborne Elite Achievers experienced during two bright and sunny days in September at the beautiful Tortworth Court Hotel:

"The theme of our recent Leadership event at Tortworth Court was 'how best to manage your Usborne business in your lives.'

With the support of Karen Chamberlain from KC Learning and Development, our focus was on four key areas:

  • Time management
  • Coaching practice
  • Developing as a Leader
  • Building confidence

There were lots of opportunities for interactive workshops and group exercises (including an Usborne themed Haka!) as well as working with peers.

Our Elite group were also given valuable thinking time within the two days to create a plan of action for their individual businesses. In such gorgeous surroundings, it was the perfect backdrop to stimulate ideas and share hints and tips.

After our first full day, some delegates chose to walk around the beautiful gardens or use the spa. We then had a wonderful evening, starting with the obligatory Champagne reception and the Head Office team performing their own Usborne Haka! This was followed by a fantastic meal, wine and lots of fun and engaging conversations.

Day two was another full day of business building and planning to allow all delegates to create the ideal environment to 'best manage their Usborne business in their lives'."

A first time delegate, Katy Salmon, has kindly shared her experience with us...

"Wow! What an amazing couple of days. My Mentor, Sophie, told me it was worth trying as hard as I could to get into Elite because the training is great and the hotels are always gorgeous and she wasn't joking!

We arrived in time for a coffee before the first session started, then it was straight down to business, but with plenty of fun too. I was really worried about not knowing anybody, but they were all really friendly and there were lots of other Organisers in the same boat. By the time we'd done the first few activities, the room felt like a safe and comfortable place to be. Karen, our trainer, was lovely and really knows her stuff! It was also really good to be working with staff from Head Office. There can't be many companies where you'd get to spend time having coaching conversations with the MD and find it both fun and helpful rather than intimidating!

I'm sure what Sophie and I learned will be making its way into training sessions and future conversations with team members, from planning to goal setting and coaching. I'm also now going to urge anybody who is uncertain to go for it and book their tickets for the 2016 Spring Conference and Gala Awards. If it is even half as good as the last two days have been, then you absolutely won't regret it. I can't wait!"

Thank you for sharing Katy. We're so pleased you got so much out of the event.
