An Usborne experience in nurseries
2nd April 2015
Usborne Organiser, Amy Mulvey shares her recent success working with a small chain of nurseries. She could have never imagined that she would have placed a £1200+ order afterwards...
"I was approached by a nursery about doing something for World Book Day. Realising that they were part of a small chain of three local nurseries, I decided to 'sell the sizzle'!
When I met with them to discuss plans, I explained that I would need to place the order using their Head Office address and suggested that if the other two nurseries wanted to take part, they could combine their orders and would therefore get a higher percentage of free books. But I never imagined that the end figure would be so high!
All three nurseries decided to do a 'Ready, Steady...Listen!' sponsored event, a dress-up day and collect parent book orders. They decided that a Book Fair wouldn't really work, as all the children do different times/days and usually the parents just want to get straight home after picking the children up. So I set up displays in each nursery, which I left up for just over a week. As well as books, the displays also had order forms, both with the seasonal leaflets and a copy of the full catalogue.
The nurseries raised over £600 in sponsorship, so this plus their 60% in extra free books meant EACH nursery had about £445 to spend on free books! They were over the moon and said they struggled to spend all the money!
I'm not going to struggle spending my money! My partner turned 40 around WBD and we didn't do much so I am going to use this nice bonus to take him away for a couple of days to celebrate."
Wow! What a fantastic achievement, Amy. Thank you for sharing.
