Focus On...Lisa Viera
20th November 2012
Our latest 'Focus on' feature highlights new Organiser, Lisa Vieira and all of the fun and challenges that Usborne Books at Home has presented her with so far. Over to you Lisa...
Where do you live?
How long have you been an Usborne Organiser?
I love Usborne books I grew up with them. I still have some of them to this day! The oldest one I have is 'What's happening? At the Zoo' from 1984. They are timeless, my children enjoy them as much as I did.
Recently separated from my husband of 7 years, I've got three beautiful boys, aged 17 months, 7 years and 12 years. I used to work as a General Insurance Adviser but that's not for me anymore, not now I've found Usborne. I used to ease my conscience by telling myself I was selling people 'peace of mind', but it didn't give me that satisfaction that I now have when I see children enjoying the books I've sold - it takes 'job satisfaction' to a whole new level.
What do you love most about being an Usborne Organiser?
I love that I can just take my books along to my usual haunts - no not pubs, not these days anyway, playgroups. I really enjoy the social aspect of book parties - it doesn't feel like work at all! Once first party nerves were out of the way, I really started to relax and enjoy the book parties... as much as the guests!
What's your top tip?
Talk to everyone and take your books everywhere.
Tell us your success story:
I had just started to think about going back to work. The dread of having to trawl through the classifieds, attend interviews etc etc, only to have to start at the bottom once again, third time round!
Here in the Island there's a popular Facebook page, 'Mums in Jersey', so I was browsing away when I came across Guernsey's equivalent 'Guernseys Mums' and it was here that I found the link to Usborne Books at Home. So it all started from there!
The more I thought about it, the more excited I got... it was the answer to my problem. With three young boys and being on my own, working 9 to 5 just wasn't feasible. This way I can put into my business whatever time I have available and the more I put in, the more I get out - it's as simple as that.
Being a book-lover myself, I'm doing what I love and my children benefit (not just by me being available for them, but also as they're surrounded by Usborne's wonderful children's books) so everyone's happy :-)
Signing up couldn't have been simpler - I filled out the Agreement form, sent off a copy with my cheque and was then contacted by my Mentor, Dian Baldwin(who is a complete inspiration to me). I received a wealth of information by email and then my Starter Kit, which contained everything I needed to get started.
When I first learned about Runaway Success the Kit Boost and Kit Refund seemed out of my reach, I only had two weeks left to meet the Kit Boost deadline - but lo and behold I managed it! I recently achieved the Kit Refund too, in only four weeks... If I can do it anyone can do it... trust me!
I'm looking forward to the challenge of promoting to Team Leader in 12 weeks, this will involve looking at ways to recruit across the water, me thinks, so wish me luck with my hat-trick!!
So that's my Usborne story so far. The moral of the story is... nosiness pays off (haha)... no seriously I'd like to thank Usborne Books at Home for this amazing opportunity. I'm loving every minute of it, it came at just the right time for me... It really was meant to be. (Oooh that bit rhymed!! Heehee).
Thanks for sending in your story Lisa, you have got off to a fantastic start within your first six weeks. Wishing you the very best of luck for your future with Usborne :-)
