Usborne staff book parties raise money for Beanstalk

20th November 2013

Beanstalk

In October, members of staff from Usborne Publishing and Usborne Books at Home invited Independent Usborne Organisers into their homes to raise money for Beanstalk, a charity which trains volunteers to help children, across the country with their reading.

10% of the total sales from each party were to be donated to Beanstalk and by holding an Usborne book party staff members got to enjoy a fun evening of Christmas shopping, with friends, whilst getting an insider view of the work of Usborne Organisers.

Here Katie Daynes, from Usborne Publishing, tells us about her party on 11th October:

"I had a jolly time one evening in October hosting an Usborne book event. I'm rubbish at selling anything and embarrassed by putting people on the spot, but Usborne's 40th anniversary seemed like a great excuse to have a party, especially as all proceeds were going to reading-in-schools charity, Beanstalk.

Our local Usborne Organiser, Emma Devine, made the event very easy. She brought the books, laid them out, answered any questions and dealt with all the business side. What surprised me most was how much my friends were drawn to the book table and hovered around it all evening. I tried to lure them away with drinks and nibbles, but they couldn't resist pawing over the titles and peeking inside!

With Christmas looming it proved a good present-buying time. 10% of the sales that night went to Beanstalk, which worked out at around £32. Not bad for a fun evening at home."

Thanks Katie, we're glad to hear you had such an enjoyable and successful evening.

We're pleased to report that total sales from Usborne staff parties reached £684, meaning that £68.44 will be donated to Beanstalk to help them with their pioneering work, helping children to read.
