A recent BBC article highlighted statistics from the Department of Education, which showed that more children were passing a phonics reading test aimed at five and six year olds, in England, than this time last year. By encouraging children to learn using phonics and then testing them on their skills, teachers are able identify pupils who may need extra support at an early age and can provide the time and resources to help them enjoy reading for pleasure.

What is 'Phonics'?

Phonics or 'synthetic phonics' involves learning to recognise the sounds that go together to make up words to help with reading and spelling.

Usborne have created a wealth of parent-friendly phonics resources to help you give your child the best possible start in learning to read.
