Teach Your Monster to Read
2nd July 2013
Teach your Monster to Read: First Steps is a free online game for children to help them practise the first steps of reading. Funded by the Usborne Foundation, a charitable fund set up four years ago by Peter Usborne and his children , it is one of the many initiatives the foundation works with to help develop early literacy.
Combining top quality game design with essential learning, the game is built on the principles of synthetic phonics and follows the teaching sequence of the Letters and Sounds programme.
It has been assessed by reading experts at the University of Roehampton and makes learning fun, interactive and rewarding.
Children can personalise and create their own monster, who will win virtual prizes as they complete games and tasks recognising letters and sounds. Teach Your Monster to read complements traditional methods of learning and teaching language and is great for use at home or school.
"The kids absolutely love this game - and they're learning!"
