Finalists of Busy Bees story writing competition announced
24th May 2013
Busy Bees UK nurseries launched a story writing competition in February in a bid to find the next budding children's author among their talented staff teams.
2013 is a very special year for everyone at Busy Bees as the nursery group celebrates its 30th birthday with an 'Under the sea' theme to tie in with the precious 'pearl' gemstone that universally represents a 30th anniversary. To mark the anniversary Busy Bees asked that all stories entered should carry a sea theme.
Usborne supported this effort by providing judges: Sam Taplin, Managing Editor at Usborne Publishing and Usborne Books at Home, Marketing Director, Mark Franklin, and prizes.
Sam outlined some guidelines to help Busy Bees staff produce a fantastic story, for children under age 5, and was delighted with the entries:
"We were very impressed by the inventiveness of the entries, and it was great to see so many examples of children being inspired to join in, not only by helping to write the stories but by creating illustrations and learning more about subjects that featured in them. A big thank you to everyone who entered, and congratulations to our very worthy regional winners."
Three stories per region were selected out of 204 entries from Busy Bees nurseries across the UK, and were sent to Sam, who read through all the stories before choosing his favourites.
The nine finalist authors will now be invited to attend a prestigious event in June, where the winner will be presented with a prize of £500 worth of Usborne books, and a personal prize from Busy Bees.
