REACT Humanitarian Network
3rd April 2020
At Usborne Books at Home, we're committed to helping everyone write a better story for their family. With this in mind, we are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with REACT Humanitarian Network!
REACT are a non-governmental, non-profit organisation with the primary aim of making education accessible to disabled Ghanaian children who suffer from ill health, financial hardship, or other disadvantages:
Relieve disabled children of stigma
Educating them in the process
Advance their wellbeing
Cater for their specific needs
Turn disability into ability
We were thrilled to hear that the first deliveries of Usborne books have reached two schools in Ghana, and that these resources have become an essential part of their libraries. Take a look at these videos of the students of the Tower Preparatory & JHS school in Gbawe and the Patasi M/A Basic school in Kumasi Ashanti with their new books!
With our shared goal of making a difference to the lives of children, we can't wait to fill as many Ghanaian schools as possible with lots of beautiful books.
As many of you will be aware, for many years we have enjoyed a fulfilling partnership with our friends at School Aid, who carried out some amazing work providing good quality learning materials to meet the diverse needs of disadvantaged children in Africa.
In 2019, School Aid were unfortunately unable to continue their operations and closed their doors for the last time. Over the 21 years they were in operation, they have positively:
- Created and developed 25 managed libraries
- Trained over 45 librarians
- Supported over 45,000 learners in our libraries
- Resourced over 1,000 schools
- Reached over 800,000 children
- Distributed over 1.6 million
What an amazing legacy that we are proud to have played a part in.
