Peep Inside London Book Fair - a VIP day for our winners

18th March 2019

Our Peep inside London Book Fair incentive treated our five winning Organisers to a money-can't-buy experience as Usborne's special guest at one of the world's most famous annual book fairs. A book-lover's paradise, the halls are packed full with everything from the big-name publishers showing off their latest titles right through to small, quirky independents and specialist publishers.

The Usborne stand was our morning meeting point, and what an impact it had! The stand was stunning, featuring a delightful forest theme as it showcased the very best of Usborne Books. Alongside the stand, "Apple Tree Farm" had been recreated to celebrate the highly anticipated re-launch of the Poppy and Sam series.

Our day really started off with a bang as "Apple Tree Farm" was officially declared open by Usborne Publishing's Founder and Managing Director, Peter Usborne. Not only did we get to hear from Peter himself, but also from both Sam Taplin, the editor of the Poppy and Sam Books, and Simon Taylor-Kielty, the fabulous new Poppy and Sam illustrator. From the chugging tractor, swing and pond to 'hay' bales and bridges (not to mention the Little Yellow Duck, of course!) it really was a perfect recreation of "Apple Tree Farm"

We were then treated to live drawing by the fabulous new illustrator of the Poppy and Sam books, Simon Taylor-Kielty. Our Organisers were fascinated to watch him paint the Little Yellow Duck and even had a chance to have a go themselves! They were rewarded with their own paintings from Simon himself to take home as a special souvenir of the day.

After all the excitement of "Apple Tree Farm" it was time to relax with some mindfulness activities with the authors of The Unworry Book. A gentle yoga session really helped us all unwind from the hustle and bustle of the book fair - A great way to rest weary legs!

Our London Book Fair experience carried on with a "behind the scenes" look into what we can expect to see published in the future. Our Organisers had the opportunity to browse the extensive bookshelves as they met and chatted with some Usborne senior staff and editors, including Publishing Director, Jenny Tyler

With Poppy and Sam goody bags, Little Yellow Duck biscuits and the chance to sit on the tractor to boot, the day really was jam-packed with Usborne excitement!

Here's what winning Organiser, Beth O'Donovan, thought of the event:

"Without a doubt the highlight has been getting a Little Yellow Duck painting by the illustrator, Simon Taylor-Kielty. Picking up on the atmosphere and vibe of London Book Fair has been brilliant. I've been sharing the excitement with my team during the day using photos and Facebook Lives to inspire and motivate them".

Congratulations to our five winning Organisers, we hope you had a truly memorable day!
