Organiser of the Month - Jo Haden
13th December 2018
We know that our Organisers have a real breadth of personal motivations for starting their own Usborne business. When this motivation is placed at the very heart of their business, some truly inspiring things can be achieved. There is no finer example of this than December's Organiser of the Month, who overcame a number of personal challenges and used her new-found confidence and financial independence to pursue a lifelong dream.
Jo was nominated by her mentor, Sarah Higgs:
"There are so many amazing things I could say about Jo. She has been incredible and a true inspiration since day one of her journey with Usborne. However, I think her own words summarise perfectly why she really, really deserves to be Organiser of the Month."
Jo shares her Usborne story with us:
"I joined Usborne three years ago in November 2015. If I'm honest, this was mainly to get a box of discounted books for my two children! I was a successful bank manager who wanted a straightforward life...on the surface.
Deep down I wanted a third child, and I also wanted to expand my other business as a birth and postnatal doula. I secretly longed to be a midwife, but there was no way I could leave employment and have no income whilst studying.
My first six weeks with Usborne were an absolute blur. I told some friends what I was up to and, with not a great deal of effort, secured £700 worth of orders, hitting both Kit Boost and Kit Refund.
I also conceived our third baby, but this was sadly not meant to be and we lost her early in the pregnancy. It was an incredibly difficult time and my world pretty much came crashing down, but my Mentor, Sarah Higgs, was amazing and told me to take the time I needed to focus on myself and my family. I realised how supportive the Usborne community is, as well as how vital the role of Mentor is. This inspired me to have a go and become a Mentor myself - so I did! - and, in April 2016, I promoted to Team Leader.
I have qualified as Team Leader for 30 consecutive months, was a finalist in the 2016 awards, and attend Leadership Academy - I have the most supportive team! I also visited India with the 2018 Travel Incentive which really was the trip of a lifetime. However there is one thing I can never thank Usborne enough for, and that is for giving me the confidence and the income to pursue my ultimate dream. I am currently a first year student midwife at Birmingham City University, having left a 22 year bank career. I have a monthly income from Usborne which supports us as a family, and I could never have achieved this without buying that very first box of books. Dreams really do come true! Thank you, Usborne, for empowering me to follow my heart.
Oh, and my daughter who arrived to join her two big brothers in October 2016 is also a massive fan."
Congratulations Jo! A copy of our December book of the month will be on its way to you very soon.
