Organiser of the Month - Melissa Timms

27th June 2018

Building your own Usborne business can be a daunting challenge, but by focusing on what you want to achieve, and how you want to shape your business, you can create something really special. June's Organiser of the Month has built up a strong and successful business online, in schools, and as a Team Leader through hard work, strong time management, and a determination to succeed.

Melissa was nominated by her mentor Vikki MacDonald:

"Although initially nervous and adamant that she couldn't do it, Melissa has absolutely excelled as an Organiser!

She has five children of her own, two of whom she home educates, and one who has additional needs. Melissa has limited time and very limited childcare for public events, but she has secured story-times at two venues each month around her husband's working hours - she always finds a way to make things work for her.

Melissa has gone on to set up one of the best online presences I have seen. She has fantastic interaction and sales via Facebook, with many customers hosting online parties with her!

After the busy Christmas period, Melissa set her sights on schools, and with several school and nursery events running and booked for future months, fantastic time management and a 'Can-Do' attitude, Melissa has hit over £1,000 in sales for three months in a row!

In March she decided she wanted to team build, and like everything Melissa does, she threw herself into the latest challenge soaking up training, support and finding what worked for her in the various ways to recruit. She excels at time management and is an excellent mentor and coach, thoroughly deserving her promotion to Team Leader. I know that she is building herself a strong, sustainable business and that way beyond the sky is the limit for her!'"

Melissa shares her Usborne story with us:

"I joined Usborne in November 2017, really just looking for some books for my children and wanting to make new friends as I'd been out of work for a few years. I have five children aged between two and twelve years and I home educate my eight and nine year olds, so I needed something really flexible!

With the buzz of Christmas approaching, I got my Kit Boost and Kit Refund by mid-December by hosting online parties and customers ordering through my Facebook group. It was so exciting and blew me away with what I'd achieved in my first month!

I was concerned that after the Christmas season my business would slow down so I put in place a plan and I ended up placing over £1000 sales for four months in a row since February 2018. I worked with schools and nurseries running sponsored reading and listening events. I feel passionately about children reading for pleasure and being able to provide schools with beautiful, interesting and adventurous books is such an amazing personal achievement, but has also been brilliant for my business by building lasting relationships with schools and nurseries.

The best bit is that I've done all of this alongside my children, I've not had to find childcare or miss out on my children's milestones.

Before joining Usborne, my confidence was low and I had very little self belief. With the support of my mentor and seeing what I am capable of, I've gone from being afraid to try in case I can't do something, to have a positive mindset and believing that I can do whatever I choose to do. This is the message I want to pass on to my children and anyone else who may need a confidence boost. If there's something you want, just go for it!"

Congratulations Melissa! A copy of our June Book of the Month will be on its way to you very soon.
