Organiser of the Month - Amy Halliday
27th March 2018
A common reason for starting your own Usborne business, is to do something that makes you, you again. March's Organiser of the Month has grown in confidence over the last 12 months, stepping out of her comfort zone again and again to take her business from strength to strength.
Amy was nominated by her mentor Carron Charlesworth:
"Amy has been with Usborne for just over a year and, to say I have seen Amy's confidence rocket in the last 12 months, is an understatement!
Amy understands that by stepping out of her comfort zone, she will move her business forward, and she has certainly done that over this last year. Amy has become a key player in our team, and is always there to help with little words of advice for people, she also leads a weekly slot in our team's Facebook group every single weekend. Her slot helps all of us to get more interaction on our Facebook business pages, it's of huge benefit to all our businesses and is always well received.
However, the main reason for me wanting to nominate Amy, is for a RSR and RSL which she recently organised with a local school and nursery. I was beyond proud of Amy, especially as she bravely held an assembly to launch the sponsored event. She was absolutely thrilled with how well it had gone and totally inspired many of us in our team.
As Amy's mentor, I feel like I have lived a lot of her journey with her. I know she can do anything she puts her mind to - she has consistently proved that. Amy came to me lacking confidence about joining and selling books, and every month I have seen her stand a little taller. She is the epitome of a do-er. Always willing to give something a bash, and look where that has got her!"
Amy shares her Usborne story with us:
"Wow, I am absolutely delighted to have won this, it's an amazing honour and I am over the moon!
I joined Usborne in January last year, and my little business has gone from strength to strength, and I couldn't have done any of it if it wasn't for my amazing mentor Carron.
I started off just wanting to sell a few books and get free books for my little girl Scarlett, who is my world and my absolute life.
But then my business grew. I started holding stalls at fetes and fairs, birthday parties and toddler groups. My name got out there and I ended up on our local radio, which was WAY out of my comfort zone, but I took a leap of faith and went for it.
I was also very active in our amazing team, and when my mentor had gone away on holiday, she asked if I minded running our weekly slot of Support Saturday, I was over the moon to have been asked and considered, and couldn't turn it down. On her return she asked if I wanted to keep running it, and I have done so ever since. I love running it and I love helping our team members in their businesses as well.
Over World Book Day I ran two separate Ready Steady Events. The first was at an academy (nursery, pre-school and primary school) where again, I went well out of my comfort zone, and stood up in front of 400 pupils and played an A to Z game with them. I came away buzzing and went straight onto our team page to go 'live' to share my excitement with my Usborne family. From this event, they raised an amazing £1174, and today I sent back to the school and attended a 'well done' assembly. I am now organising with our local newspaper to do an article about the event, which is super exciting for me and my little business. The second event was at a small nursery in my village that raised another amazing figure of £707.
I love that my job allows me to put books into the hands of children in so many different ways.
Over the last year, Usborne has improved my confidence to no end, and some of the things I have done and achieved I never thought I would ever do. I have made some great, life-long friends on my journey as well. I have my incredible mentor Carron to thank for it all, I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for her."
Congratulations Amy! A copy of our March Book of the Month will be on its way to you very soon.
