An evening of celebration
27th May 2016
On the evening of Wednesday 25th May, Usborne Books at Home celebrated a special anniversary year at the Crazy Bear, Stadhampton - a beautiful venue with a distinctive personality.
The Head Office team mingled with Organisers, who had achieved Gold level on the Business Development Programme this season, over a glass of Prosecco and some delightful canapés. Under a canopy of twinkly lights, we all enjoyed some fantastic speeches at the start of the evening, pausing to look back over 35 successful years and then focussing on the challenges and opportunities in the future.
Usborne Books at Home’s Managing Director, Mark Franklin gave a warm welcome to everyone as he shared his aspirations for the company. He recognised the need to fully engage with a new generation of Organisers by aligning our business with the digital age. He introduced a special guest, Shelley Rostlund, Digital Consultant from Social Intelligence, who we are proud to partner with at this exciting time.
We were delighted that our Founder and Managing Director of Usborne Publishing, Peter Usborne was able to join us for the celebrations along with Publishing Director, Jenny Tyler. Jenny spoke of how she was with us at the very beginning, packing the very first Usborne Books at Home box of books. Peter enthused that we were “on the edge of some extraordinary changes” and that he had “never felt more excited and optimistic than [I do] today”.
We then celebrated our outstanding fundraising success which Organisers have supported through various initiatives since the start of the year. The hard work and generosity of our Organisers and their customers culminated in an impressive cheque for £13,281.41 which Mark presented to Janis Mowlam, Chairman of the charity School Aid. Janis was overwhelmed, saying “We hugely appreciate the commitment of you all to School Aid's library development programme and look forward to completing the Impala Crescent school library in the next few weeks.” Should you wish to support this fantastic cause, our JustGiving page is still open.
No birthday party would be complete without a fabulous cake so after a delicious three course meal coupled with great company and great conversation, it was time for Peter Usborne to do the honours! It was a truly spectacular evening and with so much to look forward to the next day at this very special Leadership Academy event.
